A question that often users pose on web design and WordPress forums is about how to set up the slider in their theme so that the home page looks the same as the theme’s demo page.
Each theme has its own specific slider set-up, therefore in this video I’m going to focus on one particular free theme available on the WordPress.org repository, the Capture Theme, ideal for, but not limited to, big photography websites.
One question that comes up a lot on WordPress help forums is how to change one’s theme’s footer text.
Here’s a quick video on how to do this using WordPress default theme Twenty Fourteen
In this short video I answer a WordPress user who wanted to set up an online shop using the free Virtue Theme by Kadence Themes.
Here are her requirements:
- Name of the Shop page: Store.
- Drop-down menu containing 4 categories with subcategories, and the products assigned to the subcategories.
- Store page displaying 4 thumbnails of the corresponding 4 categories.
- Category page displaying thumbnails of the corresponding subcategories.
- Subcategory page displaying products thumbnails assigned to that subcategory.
Since the Virtue theme supports Woocommerce out of the box, and given the reliability and high quality of this free WordPress plugin, I recommended using Woocommerce for this task.
Notice: This is not a tutorial on how to set up a shop using Woocommerce, but only a quick video on how to meet this particular user’s requirements. Of course, this solution can be extended to anyone who’d like to set up an online shop according to similar requirements.
I hope you find this short tutorial useful 🙂
I enjoy browsing web design and WordPress forum posts. I always come across interesting questions, problems to solve, points of view to discuss. As I answer a few of them, I always learn something, sometimes about the topic, at other times about interacting with forum users.
Here’s a quick video that I made as I answered Gio’s question on a WordPress forum. The issue was about not being able to resize the logo using the photo editing built-in capability in WordPress.
My advice was to use a great free online photo editor called Pixlr for the job, and this video shows him and all of you how it’s done.
I hope you find it useful.
